What you teach at home gets reinforced in community.
When it comes to raising faith-filled children, one of the greatest influences outside of the home is the community that surrounds them. The voices speaking into your child’s life matter more than you might realize. Whoever has the loudest voice in your child's life will always win. If you want to see your kids grow in their love for God, make sure they are surrounded by the right people.
The Bible says it plainly: “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm” (Proverbs 13:20). Community shapes destiny. That’s why it’s so important to know who your children are around, what voices they are listening to, and who is influencing them.
Community Matters
As parents, we can model faith at home, but God designed us to grow in community. Your kids will be influenced not only by what happens under your roof, but also by the friends they choose and the mentors who guide them. That’s why it’s vital that you are intentional about their friendships.
Many parents I’ve spoken with at Radiant have said the same thing: the moment their child met a faith-filled friend, everything began to change. What they struggled to instill as parents, the right community reinforced and encouraged.
The Role of the Church
This is one of the reasons we put so much emphasis on Radiant Kids and Radiant Youth. These aren’t just programs to keep kids busy, they are communities where your children can build life-giving friendships, learn what it means to follow Jesus, and experience God in a real way.
Your child may not always listen to your words, but they will often follow the example of the friends they’re closest to. That’s why placing them in a church community that cultivates faith is so essential.
Be Intentional About Relationships
As a parent, don’t be afraid to evaluate who is influencing your children. It’s okay to ask questions, to set boundaries, and even to say no. Sometimes the greatest act of love is protecting your child from voices that could pull them away from God’s best.
At the same time, make it a priority to create opportunities for them to build strong, Godly friendships. Encourage them to attend youth nights, join kids ministry, and be part of environments where faith is celebrated.
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” – Proverbs 13:20
When you surround your children with a faith-filled community, you are giving them the support they need to grow strong in their walk with God.
