How to Build Relationships That Last: Start with Christ

If Christ isn’t at the center of your relationships, something else will be, and it will eventually fail you.

If Christ isn’t at the center of your relationships, something else will be, and it will eventually fail you.

Every relationship in your life, marriage, friendship, family, dating, has a center. Something or someone sits at the core of how that relationship functions. For many people, it’s comfort, convenience, control, or chemistry. But if you want relationships that last, relationships that are life-giving and stable, you have to make sure Christ is at the center.

The strength of any relationship depends on what it’s built around.

The Center Determines the Strength

Every relationship revolves around something. It could be physical attraction, shared interests, money, or even your kids. But if what’s at the center of your relationship can change, your relationship will eventually struggle.

When Christ is at the center, you build your connection on something eternal. Your faith in Jesus becomes the foundation that holds you together through every season.

Think about it like a wheel, if the center is off balance, everything wobbles. But when Christ is in the middle, everything aligns and moves smoothly.

How to Keep Christ at the Center

You don’t just drift into a Christ-centered relationship; you have to choose it intentionally. Here are a few simple ways to make Jesus the focus:

  • Pray together regularly. Invite God into your conversations, decisions, and challenges.
  • Read Scripture as a couple or family. Let God’s Word shape your attitudes and actions.
  • Stay planted in church. Surround yourself with a community that strengthens your faith and supports your relationship.
  • Serve together. When you serve others side by side, it reminds you both that life is bigger than yourselves.

These aren’t religious checkboxes—they’re rhythms that help keep your heart and your relationship centered on Christ.

Don’t Settle for a Relationship Built on Feelings

Feelings come and go. Chemistry fades. Seasons change. But Jesus remains constant. If you build your relationships on Him, you’re building on a foundation that can weather every storm.

When Christ is the center, you don’t just survive tough times, you grow through them.

Final Encouragement

Whether you’re single, dating, married, or raising a family, decide today to put Jesus at the center of every relationship. Ask Him to be the foundation that everything else is built upon.

When He’s at the center, everything else finds its right place.
